Song review: Hunter Thomas’ “Go For A Drive”

Hunter Thomas is a rising artist from Oklahoma, who will release his debut album in 2022 via Thirty Tigers. Meanwhile, his single, named “Go For A Drive“, is available on all digital platforms, since July 30th, and y’all should give it a listen because it’s absolutely awesome!

Written by Hunter Thomas and coproduced by Hunter Thomas and his guitarist Kyler Watson, “Go For A Drive” is one of those songs that you love immediately, since the first listen. It’s a tune that everyone can relate to, about playing your favorite song while you take a drive, and feeling the perfection of this moment. We can appreciate the wonderful voice of Hunter Thomas, the quality of the instrumentation, with particularly beautiful fiddle, and of the songwriting. This song is an evidence of the talent of this young artist and we appreciate it more and more after each listen, for its musical quality and the authenticity of its lyrics.

Hunter Thomas may be considered as an emerging artist, as he’s not released yet an album, but his name and his voice are known, among a large part of music fans, as he’s shared stages with artists like Parker McCollum, Aaron Watson, Koe Wetzel, Granger Smith or Eli Young Band. His career is only starting, but I have no doubt that he will have a brilliant future.

What I love about red dirt music is its authenticity, the quality of the storytelling and the fact that the artists from this musical genre have the capacity to put into songs the feelings and emotions of the common man. It’s a music from Oklahoma and Texas, but these characteristics make it universal. And that’s why a song like “Go For A Drive” has such a great appeal.

“Real country music that some Okies made”

Hunter Thomas is a red dirt artist who modestly defines his songs as “real country music that some Okies made“. That’s a good definition an it’s a reason for us to get ready for the release of his debut album. Meanwhile, if you go for a drive, make sure to add Hunter Thomas’s single to your playlist. You’ll not regret it.
