He’s only 22 years old, but he has a lot to say, and the way he does it with his songs makes him, from now on, one of the most prominent and authentic artists on the country music scene. With Wyatt Flores, we are witnesses of the spectacular breakthrough of a young and very talented artist who perfectly knows the meaning of “Three Chords and the Truth“.
Only five months after his wonderful “Life Lessons“, the Oklahoma native artist released, on April 19th, his new EP, “Half Life“. via Island records. The whole record is a bunch of emotions and a masterful piece of of songwriting.
Morrison, Wyatt Flores’s native town, is just some miles away from Stillwater. No doubt that the young artist must have been steeped in the red dirt culture and its long tradition of storytelling and musical quality. It also means that Stillwater’s history will go on with a young artist whose best years are still to come.
The title track, cowritten with Austin Yankunas and Troy Allen is a beautiful song with powerful lyrics and wonderful fiddle and keyboards that enhance Wyatt Flore’s voice.
“Wish I Could Stay“, cowritten with David DeVaul, is a gem, very emotional, with wonderful lyrics and perfect instrumentation including pedal steel, fiddle and keyboards.
“How To Save A Life” is a splendid cover of The Fray’s song. You could think that it’s impossible to surpass the Colorado band’s original version, but after listening to Wyatt Flores’s cover, you have to accept that the young Oklahoman singer is just as good as Isaac Slade when it comes to bring us emotion. His outstanding performance leaves us speechless.
“Running Out Of Time“, cowritten with Ben Wagner, and “Milwaukee“, cowritten with Cole Miracle, Gavin Lucas and Graham Barham, are catchy songs, both of them with amazing fiddle and brilliant lyrics.
What happens with Wyatt Flores is all about his voice and the wonderful way he sings and brings such an emotion, with authenticity and honesty. Of course, Flores’ songs are full of brilliant lyrics and quality music, but what blows you away is his capacity to stir our emotions thanks to his voice. It’s very impressive when you know he’s only 22 years old. Two weeks after its release, “Half Life” is still on repeat, and I’m quite sure that the songs included in this masterful record will be a huge part of this year.
